How blue are really our
oceans anymore?
Like
all other components of nature, the myopic & unsustainable human activities
haven’t spared polluting the 75% of the earth’s crust – the oceans either, a
place the humans don’t even use as a habitat. Data shows 80% of marine
pollution comes from land. It’s defined as when residential, agricultural or
industrial waste gets into the marine water in the form of chemicals, particles
or invasive organisms carrying harmful effects, to which land & air
pollution also works as contributing factors.
From domestic ways
the biggest mean of ocean pollution is plastic that remains as residual
from packages of goods we use in our daily lives which either suffocates the
animals or starves them to death being mistaken for food especially where the
ocean waves accumulate them which basically turn into some deadly zones.
Of all
reasons chemical pollution, sewerage, industrial waste, deep sea mining &
pollution from the ships especially oil spill are the likely big reasons behind
marine pollution which makes the sea water toxic, kills the marine life &
destroys the ocean ecology, in turn hampering the economy as well as the
environment dependent on marine life.
If statistics are taken into account, the magnanimity can be understood
from the fact that consumers use 90% of our consumer goods only once and then
throw it afterwards. Only in USA, resources worth US$ 8 billion are added each
year in as domestic waste. What a waste of money & nature because most of
these wastes go to the ocean & harm the marine lives. With efficiency,
innovation and initiative of environmentally responsible companies as well as
diligent and aware consumer citizens, this problem can be solved which will
benefit the economy, save money and nature.
